Zayed, rest in peace

Radio Bahrain and Bahrain TV have suspended their regular programming to broadcast the recitation of the Quran. Unfortunately, it seems there was some truth to all of the rumours regarding Sheikh Zayed's health that I posted about two weeks ago (thanks to a tip from a commenter). Only time will tell what the political repercussions of Sheikh Zayed's death will be on the UAE and the rest of the region. But let's forget that for now and instead take the time to salute this man with vision who has left us. He will be missed by his people and everyone else in the Gulf no doubt. Few leaders in the region have enjoyed the near universal support of their people as did Sheikh Zayed enjoy the support of the people of Abu Dhabi. Let us hope that the country's next leader will continue the legacy left behind Sheikh Zayed. Rest in peace.
