The movement rolls on
Saturday, March 12, 2005The Public Prosecutor is due to announce tomorrow (Sunday) whether the detained BahrainOnline trio (Ali, Hussain, Mohammed) will be released, charged or detained for another 45 days for "further investigation". However, it seems like no one is expecting them to be released, and so a plan of action for the coming days has already been announced:
- The Trio have announced that they will go on a hunger strike commencing from today. (!!!)
- A demonstration will be held tomorrow (Sunday, Mar 13) in front of the Public Prosecution building at 4pm.
- A seminar will be held on Tuesday (Mar 15) to discuss the violation of rights that the the BahrainOnline detentions present.
- The continuation of protests in front of the Hoora police station, where the Trio are being held, and protests during the Formula-1 Grand Prix week, for which details are yet to be announced.
I don't think there will be any trouble at the protest tomorrow or at the seminar, but judging from past events I suspect that the riot police may be called in during the protests on Exhibition Ave and Formula 1. I just hope that none of the protesters do anything silly to provide an excuse for the police to use force. And I hope that the government will have enough sense to not escalate matters during F-1 weekend when all the international media will be right there.
Might there still be a wee chance that the Trio will be released tomorrow?
